SEO Services in Montreal
Quebec is the one Canadian market where the language your site is written in is a legal question as well as a search one. Block B runs technical, local, and content SEO inside that constraint — two query sets, two keyword vocabularies, one set of verified Search Console numbers — working out of Winnipeg and delivering remotely.
Updated October 6, 2026What does an SEO engagement in Montreal actually cover?
Four disciplines, none of which works alone: technical SEO so engines can crawl and understand every page; local SEO so Montreal searchers find the business in the map pack; content SEO so pages carry the question-and-answer structure that search and AI engines quote; and AI visibility (GEO) so the brand is named inside generated answers. On top of that, a Montreal engagement carries one more requirement no other Canadian city imposes: the French side has to be real, and it has to be indexable.
Block B treats search visibility as an engineering discipline rather than a monthly keyword report. Crawlability and schema are checked against the actual vocabulary, results are read out of Google Search Console instead of promised, and where a query does not rank yet, that is what the report says.
What does Quebec's language law change about search visibility?
Quebec's Charter of the French Language makes French the default language of commerce, and it applies to commercial material published to the public. Section 52 requires that catalogues, brochures, folders, commercial directories, order forms and similar documents made available to the public be drawn up in French — and since the 2022 reform (Bill 96) the section opens with the words "regardless of the medium used". Our reading is that this covers commercial material published on a website, because it is difficult to read a medium-neutral sentence any other way; the exact scope for a specific site is a question for the Office rather than for an agency, and we would rather label it as our reading than assert it as settled law.
Two consequences matter for search. First, a French version that exists only behind a language toggle, is deliberately left out of the index, or is machine-translated filler is not the same thing as a French version, and it is not what a francophone buyer finds. Second, the Charter's obligations do not stop at page content: the signage and advertising rule (section 58) makes French mandatory and requires it to be markedly predominant wherever a second language appears alongside it. An employer with a Quebec headcount of 25 or more, sustained over six months, must also register with the Office québécois de la langue française (section 139). The Office states both on its own site — see the Charter pages of the Office québécois de la langue française and the Office's summary of the legislative changes.
We describe the obligation rather than the penalty because we are not your lawyers: for advice on your specific case, the Office and a Quebec counsel are the authorities. What we can say is what the requirement does to search. A compliant French presence and a ranking French presence are the same asset, and the businesses that treat them as two projects pay for both.
Why isn't French SEO just translated English SEO?
Because the two query sets are not the same query set. French-language search behaviour in Quebec has its own phrasing, its own volume curve, and frequently its own competitors — a query like "agence web montreal" or "services de référencement montreal" does not map one-to-one onto its English equivalent, and a keyword list run through a translator will miss terms that real buyers use and invent terms they do not.
There is also a structural problem a translation cannot solve. If the French page is a machine rendering of the English page, both versions carry the same structure and the same gaps, and the French one inherits every weakness the English one has. Block B maintains a separate French SEO services page for Montreal for exactly that reason — the French market gets its own copy, not a rendering of this one. We build bilingual software in-house as well: Culvert Studio, the culvert sizing app, runs in French and English.
The honest limits: Block B is based in Winnipeg and serves Montreal fully remote, with no downtown office and no city-overhead baked into the rate. Montreal search volumes are not yet measured on this site, and we will not print a number we have not pulled — ranges get published as Keyword Planner reports them, when they are.
How does Block B prove the work happened?
Every deliverable has an observable definition of done. Rankings, impressions, clicks, CTR and indexation come out of Google Search Console. Schema is validated against the schema.org vocabulary rather than assumed from a plausible-sounding type name. Pages publish with a visible update date, so freshness is a fact a reader can check instead of a claim in a proposal.
For the French side, "done" includes an indexable French URL, correct hreflang between the two language versions, and copy a francophone reader would accept as written for them. If a page is meant to rank for "seo services montreal" or its French counterpart, both queries are tracked, and the report says where each one actually sits.
How is GEO different from SEO?
SEO earns the blue links; GEO makes your business the answer AI engines recommend. SEO is the foundation — AI engines largely draw on the pages and citations that rank in Google.
GEO layers answer-first structure, cited facts, and AI-engine monitoring on top so your brand shows up in AI responses, not just search results. We built LunimRank, our own AI-visibility platform that tracks how ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini talk about your brand. For the Montreal-specific play, see AI Visibility & GEO in Montreal, or the national AI Visibility & GEO service.
What did the LunimRank baseline show for Montreal searchers?
We do not sell a method we have never aimed at ourselves. On August 7, 2026 the LunimRank checks ran live and the results are below, unedited — including the Montreal row that failed, because the free scan was rate-limited that day (HTTP 429, three free scans per IP).
| LunimRank check | What it tests | Result (2026-08-07) |
|---|---|---|
| "SEO services Montreal" — free scan | Five buyer prompts answered by ChatGPT | Unverified — rate-limited (HTTP 429) |
| "SEO services Toronto" — free scan | The same prompt set, run where quota allowed | AI Readiness Score 30 of 100 · grade F · 0 of 5 mentions |
| "SEO services Vancouver" — free scan | The same prompt set, run where quota allowed | AI Readiness Score 30 of 100 · grade F · 0 of 5 mentions |
| "top SEO companies" — brand search | Whether an engine recommends the business unprompted | 0 of 2 engines (OpenAI named Moz; Gemini unavailable) |
| Citation check on blockb.ca | Whether an engine treats the site as a source | 0 of 2 engines |
| AI readiness grader on blockb.ca | Site-level structure, schema, freshness | 85 of 100 · grade B |
| GEO audit on the homepage | Answer-capsule coverage on the entry page | 85 of 100 · grade A |
Read the two halves against each other. The site scores 85 (B) on readiness and 85 (A) on the homepage audit — the structure is not the problem. The problem is that when an engine is asked to recommend an SEO provider it names Moz, and nothing on this site gives it a reason to name Block B instead. That is a content and proof gap, and the Montreal AI-visibility wedge is the page built to close it. Meanwhile this page carries the part a city page cannot: French-language search, and the Quebec rules that sit underneath it.
Who does Block B already help?
Block B has built and optimized sites for 50+ local clients across different fields, from mobile auto service to driving school to sports physiotherapy.
The proof is on this site: a mobile auto service (Tire Crew), a mobile tire service (BAL TIRES), a driving school (North Star Driving Academy), and a sports physiotherapy clinic (Rehab & Revive). The same senior full-stack team runs your Montreal SEO engagement — and we will not invent Montreal reviews or offices to make the story prettier.
How does a done-for-you agency compare to the alternatives?
Three ways Montreal businesses "do SEO" — and what each one actually covers, so the comparison is honest rather than a sales pitch.
| Factor | DIY | Template tool | Done-for-you agency (Block B) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Technical & schema | Fragmented; easy to miss | Limited to what the tool automates | Validated JSON-LD and crawlability fixes, done for you |
| Content | You write it yourself | Generic templates competitors also use | Question-format answer capsules built for citations |
| Local intent | Occasional directory entries | Thin local pages at best | GBP, NAP consistency, and city landing pages |
| Reporting | You read the analytics | Tool dashboard, little context | Search Console data with real interpretation |
| AI visibility (GEO) | Not covered | Not covered | Included — with LunimRank AI-engine monitoring |
| Time required from you | High | Medium, ongoing | Low — a scoped plan and a status check |
| French-language SEO | English-only copy | English-only templates | Native French answer-capsule content — Block B ships bilingual products (Culvert Studio is EN/FR) |

What does an SEO service in Montreal include?
Four disciplines that have to hold together: technical SEO (crawlability, schema, speed), local SEO (Google Business Profile, NAP consistency), content SEO (question-format pages with direct answers), and AI visibility (GEO). A Montreal engagement adds one more — an indexable French version that a francophone reader accepts as written for them.
Does Block B have an office in Montreal?
There is no Montreal office. Block B Technologies works out of 94 Sawka Bay in Winnipeg, and Montreal clients are served fully remote by the same senior team that would take the work locally; no city-office overhead is baked into the rate. We will not pretend to have a Montreal address.
Can Block B handle French-language SEO in Montreal?
Yes. Block B ships bilingual apps — Culvert Studio is available in English and French — and keeps a French SEO page for Montreal rather than translating this one, so the French query set gets its own copy and its own keyword work.
How is GEO different from SEO?
SEO competes for a position on the results page; GEO competes for the sentence an assistant repeats in its answer. GEO is not a replacement — roughly four-fifths of what makes a page quotable by an engine is what already makes it rankable in Google.
